How ConvUnit Works

ConvUnit uses pure mathematical conversion formulas. For linear conversions (most units), we multiply by a verified conversion factor. For non-linear conversions (temperature, shoe size), we use precise multi-step formulas.

Technical Architecture

ConvUnit runs on Cloudflare Workers at the edge, serving pages from 300+ locations worldwide. This means:

  • Sub-400ms time-to-first-byte (cached)
  • HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 (QUIC) support
  • Brotli compression
  • No single point of failure

The site is built with Astro for server-side rendering, TypeScript for type-safe unit definitions, and Vitest for 74 automated conversion tests.
